Limiting Beliefs: you decide

limiting beliefs
Do you have limiting beliefs? The answer is that yes you do. We all do. Now where do you think they come from? That’s right, you decide what your limiting beliefs are.
Wait! I didn’t decide on my limitations!
Yes you did. Sure you may have been born with some handicap or in poverty, but you decided whether or not those limitations were going to be limitations.
Yesterday I wrote a little about Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was brought up in an abusive home and in poverty. Now lots of people have used those same situations as excuses for why they couldn’t do things in life. They decided that their situation in life would be a limitation. He didn’t.
People have been born with physical disabilities and have used those disabilities as limitations. Others have not.
What are your limitations? What have you decided were the things in your life to hold you back? We all have them. We work at eliminating them, but we all have them. What are yours?
I can’t get rid of them!
I know that it is hard to get rid of limiting beliefs that we hold. The more ingrained they are, the harder it is. There is something you can do, however.
Use that limiting belief. That’s right! Use it to turn things around. If you have a limiting believe of say poverty, use that belief of your poverty to turn you into someone who is determined to leave poverty behind. Turn the limitation into a motivation.
There are lots of stories out there of people with physical and situational handicaps who have used them to motivate themselves and others. Why can’t you do that?
How do I do that?
You have to believe in who you are and what you want to accomplish. If you truly believe, then you can look at your limitation and ask how can it be used as motivation. Let’s say you have the limiting belief that you are stupid and won’t ever amount to anything. You look at that limiting belief and say to yourself that you will prove to those who called you stupid that you are not by graduating from college. You take classes and you get that diploma. You proved to them, whoever they are, that you are not stupid and in the process, proved it to yourself. It is no longer a limiting belief.
Whatever your limiting belief is, you can turn it around and use it as a motivational tool to help you get what you want and be who you want to be.
Remember that you decide what a limiting belief is and what motivation is. You have the choice. Choose in favor of you!
