I just finished The Think Big Manifesto by Michael Port and I thought it was a good read. It is certainly geared toward those of a positive thinking mentality. The premise of the book was, yep you guessed it, Thinking Big!
What I liked.
What I liked was the implied effects that thinking big would have upon the world. I certainly agree that we live in a world of small thinkers. Lately there has been some argument that positive thinking is ruining the country and the world. I believe it is just the opposite. We don’t think positively enough, we don’t think big enough.
Now thinking big, like positive thinking is not about never looking at negatives or denying that negative things exist in the world. It is really about seeing the negatives, but not allowing them to control us and finding a way to turn them into positive solutions.
Should we admit that cancer exists? Yes, to do otherwise is to be foolish. Do we then just roll over a die is we are diagnosed with cancer? No! (Listen to my podcast about Lady T and how she beat cancer). Should we think big and find a way to cure cancer without feeding the pharmaceutical corporate giant? Yes, we should!
Things like curing cancer and world peace do not have to be the things of fantasy. We have hardly tapped the abilities of our minds. The more we think big, the better our world will be.
What I didn’t like.
Although Mr. Port does give what he calls “statements” on how big thinking takes place, I wanted more about ”how” to think big. We are so conditioned to think small and within the lines, I would have liked some exercises or methods to help expand our thinking. It might help those of us who want to change our thought patterns, but are a little unsure how to go about it.
Overall assessment
The Think Big Manifesto is a good little book to read. It is small and it takes little time to read it. It gets your mind going about how small your thinking may be and gives some great stories as examples of people who have thought big and not only changed their lives, but the lives of many others as well.
For less than you would spend for a fast food meal that will clog your arteries, you can have this little gem that will open your mind. If you have a Kindle, it’s even less! Check out The Think Big Manifesto.
P.S. If you would like to read the opposite point of view in a recently popular book, read Bright-sided: How the Relentless Promotion of Positive Thinking Has Undermined America
by Barbara Ehrenreich. I don’t agree with her, for the most part, but hey, it takes all kinds!

You certainly have the right mind set. why should we think small and remove the chance to help others along with ourselves?

Interesting to hear about something that’s counter to the norm like this book! I have always been a big thinker and teachers have given me constructive criticism that I need to narrow my ideas down. I have done that to a degree, but whenever I envision one of my possible entrepreneurial endeavors, I always think of helping thousands or millions of people. And, if I fall short of that, hey, that’s okay too. But, it’s good to hear other minds are thinking the same thing.
