Why Is Goal Setting Important?

Why is goal setting important? Many people would think that goal setting is only important for young people or those who are trying to become successful in some business or career. The truth is, knowing what you want and going for it with determination is a good thing no matter what.
Suppose you want to lose some weight. With your goal weight in mind and a time limit to achieve your goal, you will be far more successful than if you just say you want to lose some weight and let it go at that. Once you have your goal weight in mind and your time frame, then you add determination to the mix and you are sure to be that slim trim person you wanted to be.
May you want to take a vacation to another country. If you do nothing more than dream about going somewhere, you are very likely to get nothing more than the dream. If you name the country, name the time you expect to go, know the cost and set up an account to put the money you save into, you have a wonderful chance of going. Again, mix in some determination to achieve that goal, no matter what, and you will soon be standing in that place!
What if you don’t know what you want to do?
The first thing I would say about that is that you are not being honest. We all have dreams. Sometimes we shove them down so deep that we have forgotten what they were, but they are still there. Bring them up again. Don’t think that you dream has to be some grandiose thing. It can be as simple as putting in a garden or cleaning the shed.
Set a time frame!
Once you know what you want, set a time limit. Tell yourself it must be done by next week or next month. Whatever is a reasonable time frame, but don’t make it too long! Parkinson’s Law states that any task will fill up the time that you allow it to have. If you allow a week to complete a task, it will take up that time. If you give it a month, it will take a month. Limit the time that a task must be done and you will get it done much quicker.
An inspirational story
You may not care for Sylvester Stallone as an actor, but his story has something good to say about determination and not letting go of our dreams and desires. Here is a video of Tony Robbins telling Sylvester’s story. I think it is a good one and will worth the time to listen to!
Don’t give up the fight! Don’t give in to apathy and let your dreams go down the toilet! You can have your dreams is you are willing to fight for them and never give up!

P.S. A good book about living your dreams is Infinite Possibilities: The Art of Living Your Dreams. I especially like chapter four entitled “Life is Waiting For You”. It is too!
The 7 Universal Laws of Life are timeless ways to give you success and happiness.
This little book will help you to be more productive. Success is just a matter of applying the right tools!
