Are You In Total Control?

Are you in total control of your life? The quick and simple answer is no. No matter how much you want to be in control, you are not. I don’t care how rich you are or how famous, there are things in this life that are totally out of your control.

Since that is the case, What are you to do about it? I have found that my first reaction is to get angry, but then I try to remember that I cannot control much in my life except my thoughts. I can control how I think about things that go on. This is a huge ability and we all have it!

Recently, something in my life went out of my control and it was not how I wanted to see it happen. As usual, I got angry at first, but as I thought about it I understood that this could be an opportunity. I needed to calm down and start thinking about what my options were. What could I do that would turn this seemingly catastrophe into something good?

This is what I call positive thinking. Looking at a situation and trying to turn it into something good. So many people think that positive thinking means never having something bad happen in your life. The only people who have nothing bad happen to them are dead! Real positive thinking, real strength of character does not come from pretending nothing bad ever happens, but knowing how to deal with things when they do!

Are you in total control? No you are not. You never have been and you never will be. Are you in control of your thoughts? Yes, you always have been and you always will be!
