You Can Heal Your Life Part 3
This is the final part of my review of “You Can Heal Your Life.” It has been a very good read and I have gotten quite a bit from it. Louise Hay seems to have a very good grasp of the subject matter as she has worked through it all from her early years until now. These are not some tricks she picked up from reading a book, they are real life.
The last part of the book was a disappointment in a small way. The reason I say that is because it becomes a bit like any other new age self help book. It is clearly in the Law of Attraction camp. Now, I don’t mean to say that this is necessarily a bad thing, I believe in the Law of Attraction, or faith, it is just that I got so much new information at the beginning of the book. The last fourth of the book was largely stuff that I had heard before.
Having said that, I do want to say that Louise Hay certainly has some views that you might not expect and she has a way of saying things that are to the point and a lot less airy fairy than you might expect from this kind of book. At one point I was reading the book on my Kindle in a Doctor’s parking lot. I was waiting for my wife to come out and I sat there reading. I laughed out loud at one point so loud that someone coming out of the office looked at me like I might be some demented person lying in wait to attack unsuspecting people. I leered maniacally just to give them something to think about and went back to reading. It was only a few pages later that I again was laughing out loud. Let me give you an example.
In speaking about religious upbringing in the subject of sex, Louise was talking about how so often we are taught that sex is dirty and something that good God fearing people engage in with care and the right attitude. She says, “I find it hard to believe that the vast incredible Intelligence that created this entire Universe is only and old man sitting on a cloud above the Planet Earth…watching my genitals!”
In the back of the book there is a lengthy list of specific body areas and what emotions and thoughts might be effecting them, or how those thoughts might be effecting the body part. For instance, pain in the lower back can often be attributed to fears and concerns about money or security in the basics of life. “I don’t have enough money, food, a good place to live,” can cause dis-ease in the lower back. Pain in the knees can be attributed to an unbending ego or an unwillingness to let go and allow change. This is something I deal with, and when I really thought about it honestly, I had to admit that I do have thoughts like that. In just one day of letting go of that sort of thinking, my knees felt better!
This is the kind of thing that Louise does as she teaches about how our thoughts and emotions can influence and control our lives. “You Can Heal Your Life,” is a book well worth reading. It not only has plenty of reference to Law of Attraction, type of thinking, but goes deeper in helping you to find those thoughts and emotions that are deep seated and you may not even be aware of them or how they are affecting your life.
