Change My Life? It Takes Commitment!
One of the most important qualities to have, if you really want to change your life, is commitment. When I think of my own efforts to change my life, I realize that commitment to that change is a huge deal. It is so easy to drop back into old habits of thinking, old programs that drag me back into the labyrinth of life that is what I want to leave behind!
One of my biggies right now is just to lose some weight. It has become very important to me to do this, but old habits of eating threaten to keep me from my goal. I love food!? I mean, I love the taste of food and I enjoy eating with others, the conversations and closeness. I sit down at a meal, especially the evening meal, and I just want to sit for hours and nibble and talk and enjoy. It is the second most enjoyable thing in my life.
You can guess as to the first
The commitment to lose weight can seem to flag while sitting at the table. It isn’t that I need the food.. I just enjoy it! The commitment to lose weight has to be strong or I will let go. Then, of course, I feel guilty that I didn’t stick to the plan Right now, I am visiting my daughter in Michigan. It is easy, when you are out of your home element, to give in too micro-breweries and fast food. At least it is for me! I just had to remind myself not to eat all the chips in the bag! God how I love chips. That wonderful salty flavor! The consistency!
Oh yeah, back to commitment!
The same is true for any goal or change you want to make. Change just one little thing in your daily life and the commitment to big life changes can go right out the window!
It doesn’t matter what the goal or change is you want to accomplish. If the commitment is not strong, you will likely not succeed.
Now understand that I am not talking about dedication, but commitment.
What’s the difference?
There is an old story about a chicken and a pig talking about their desire to feed the farmer. The chicken was dedicated, she gave her eggs, the pig, however, was committed! Dedication can be strong, but it doesn’t always give itself completely. Commitment is in all the way.
When talking about changing your life, it often takes not just dedication, but real commitment. It is hard to break old habits and patterns. It can be impossible to get rid of past programming that keeps you in the prison of your old life.
