You Are Responsible
While I was walking around Disney, I was rudely reminded of one of the universal principals of life; you are responsible for your own life and happiness. This is very important!
Here’s what happened. While at Disney, we were doing all the things that the grand-kids wanted to do. Now Disney is about kids! However, my idea of enjoying Disney and theirs were two very different things! I enjoy doing the slow stuff, sitting in the cafes, riding the paddle wheeler. They enjoy roller coasters.
On the day we went to Epcot, I had told myself it was about the kids and to stop whining. I starting having fun and, I admit it, was being a bit loud and obnoxious, but not harming anyone. Someone made a comment about it and my mood crashed. The rest of the day I was in a downer!
As I went to sleep that night, I kept thinking how I had let this person ruin my day and that was stupid. I needed to be stronger. When I woke up, I realized that no one had ruined my day, I had. You see, we all are responsible for our own life and happiness. If you think someone else has controlled your life in some way, you have allowed them that control. You are the one responsible.
Who do you give your power to? Who do you allow to have responsibility for your life?
There are very few people in this world who are so self contained that they don’t give away some of their power now and then. We all like to think we are self sufficient, strong personalities, but that just isn’t the case. We lend our power to others and then piss and moan about it when it makes us unhappy!
How do you stop this? It is easy and hard all at the same time. The secret is being aware that the responsibility is yours and your alone. Do you feel your life slipping out of your control? Be aware that you are giving your power away.
“Oh no!” you say. “It’s my boss! He is such a jerk! He makes me do stuff that is just insane!”
That may be true, but the control of how you react to whatever it is that Joe Slime gives you to do is under your control. You are the one who decides that being given that brainless job makes you angry or not. You decide if you laugh it off, cringe, or tell Joe to shove it. It is in no one’s hands but yours.
Do not give your power away! No one can take it from you. You give it away, or you keep it. The choice is yours! You are responsible for your life!
