Life Changes, Whatever Works!
This morning someone gave me the advice that “So and So” says that I should always do “this” to be more productive. I thought about it because the person quoted knows more about this than I do, but it didn’t really suit me. Later, I actually heard from the person quoted and was told that it wasn’t quite like the advice as given. It’s very possible that I misunderstood.
The thing about this is, if you want to make changes in your life, if you want to turn things around, then you have to do what works for you. Now this does not mean that you don’t listen to people who have gone before you. Certainly you should take their advice and their wisdom and use it, but it has to work for you.
One of the things I do is teach meditation. Now some people say you have to meditate this way and some say no, you have to meditate that way. I tell people you have to do what works for you! Some people sit on the floor with their legs crossed into a pretzel with their hands folded correctly, this is me, and there are that who sit on a stump in the woods or a rock by the water and that’s meditation for them. I tell people in my classes that whatever works for you is what you do.
The same is true in goal setting or being more productive. Some people get up early and jump right in; some don’t get to it until later. I have a friend who works late at might. He is a minister and he doesn’t like to get up before about nine or ten. He works until about one or two in the morning. It’s just who he is. If he had to work first thing in the morning, he would get nothing done.
Now I am not saying that you can just lay back and then say, “Ah, that didn’t work!” I said whatever works for you. Notice the word work. If you don’t find the way that works for you, then you will get nowhere.
How are you most productive? What are the activities that you use that makes you productive? If you don’t know, then you need to find out. There will be no success, no change, no better life without getting behind the driver’s wheel and taking control!
