How can you achieve your goals, if you don’t know what they are?

Achieve Your Goals
I read a book at a library that I was visiting while waiting for my wife who was in a workshop. I wish I could tell you the name of the book! I would love to give you a link to it. I’m sure this concept is not only found in this singular book, but it was put so well. Here is the concept.
Get yourself a pad of paper, like a legal pad, a pencil or pen and get comfortable. Now, as quickly as possible, write down everything you want. Don’t’ think about it, if it pops in your head, write it down. Nothing is too small too big, or too silly. If it comes to mind write it down. Write until you can’t think of one more thing you want. These can be material objects, accomplishments, relationships, anything!
Once you can no longer think of one more goal or dream, stop, put down your pen or pencil and walk away for a few minutes. Get yourself a glass of water or a cup of tea, whatever you would like.
When you come back, read over your list. There will probably be some things that jump right out as things you don’t really want. Let’s say you wrote down a 747 jet. You probably don’t really want one, too much upkeep and the mileage is terrible! Cross things like that off.
Next look at the things that you wrote that you can tell aren’t really what you want, but they do have some relevance. Let’s say you wrote Rolls Royce. As you think about it, you realize that you don’t want a Rolls, but you would like a nice car. What kind? What would be the price range? You realize that a nice dependable car is what you want, but the Rolls was a little more than that. Now you can redefine your goal to what you really want.
Lastly, there are things that ring true as soon as you look at them. Perhaps it is to have your own business or to meet your life partner. These things, like the previous ones need to be defined a little better, but you know that these are things you want.
Now that you have the list narrowed down to the specific things you want, you start to break them down into pieces. By this I mean, what will it take to get from where you are, to where you want to be. Once you have those steps defined it is simply a matter of taking the steps.
To achieve your goals, you have to know what they are. To live your dream, you have to know what that dream looks like. Now that you do, what’s stopping you?
Here’s to You!
