i am currently taking a psych 101 class and they would argue that we are a combination of things. two of them you listed, the one that was left out was our biological need to be a certain way. some believe that we inherited traits through the generations that increased our chances of survival including our behaviors and attitudes. that being said, i agree that we can choose to change our ways if we put in the right amount of effort. however i think that we can also learn from our environment things that can be good. for example if you admire how someone is, then it may be a good idea to step back and watch how they respond in certain situations that you may admire. think to yourself how can i change to be like that or what do i need to do to be more in this way. haha this will be a little strange but i am also taking a philosophy class and right now we are discussing Kongzi (or Confucius) and several times he talks about watching and learning from the actions of a “good” man, but also observing and learning from a “bad” man and looking at one’s self to evaluate how we would react in the situations. we may label the “bad” man bad but then when we look at ourselves we see that we would have made the same choices. i know that this was long but to wrap it all up i am saying we can be molded by those around us however we must make sure that it is something worthy of obtaining. we must be responsible for how we act.

I agree. We can learn form those around us and we can choose to be like someone else and choose not to be like someone. We can adapt behaviors to our own lives in order to be the best, most functional person we can be.
