Self Development: use your head
This site, as you know, is about changing your life, making it better.

Use Your Head
Over at Lynn Terry’s SSWT forum, there is quite a discussion going on about the FTC’s new rules considering online marketing. Now understand, the people on this forum are in the business of online marketing so the discussion is centered around that. It’s a great place, by the way, if you are wanting to know more about that business.
Anyway, The FTC has come out with new guidelines for internet marketers and how they present products and services. The idea is to get control of the sham artists who tell you that you can lose thirty pounds by this weekend’s Christmas party if you just use their product.
It amazes me the amount of people fall for this stuff! In the self development end of things, there are lots of people offering products and services that tell you that they will change your world, your life in a month a week or a day, Get a grip people!
Organizations like the FTC have to put rules in place like they have because people, at least some people, are so dumb, they believe they can get rich overnight or that the tooth fairy will come and give them whatever it is they want. They think hot coffee won’t burn them and then sue when it does! The Darwin Awards is full of stories of people doing things so incredibly stupid it is hard to fathom!
Listen, you can change your life, but you have to use your head for something other than a place to put your hat. It takes work and it takes a lot of thought. You have to know what you want to change and what you want it to change to. You will have to work at it and you will fail sometimes. You will have to start over!
How do I know you can change? I know because I use these same methods and techniques to change my life. It is an ongoing process! I know it works because it is working! How long will it take you? Beats the heck out of me! Like I said, it’s a process. I don’t know that it ever stops! What I do know is if you are willing to work at it and you understand that it is a process, you can change!
