fear
There are three fears that nearly everyone deals with to some degree or other. These fears do more to stop us from being who and what we want to be than any other
The fear of poverty
The first fear is the fear of poverty. Now I don’t necessarily mean Read the rest of this entry »

As I was going for my walk today, I had a thought about the movie A

A Christmas Carol
The idea really came to me as I thought about a blog post that I responded to on Dan Reinhold’s blog, he asked Internet marketers what their three ghosts would say to them The blog post is called A Visit From the 3 Ghosts of Online Business. That got me to thinking that we could really use this method to look at our lives, past, present and future.
When you ask the “ghost” of your past what your life has been like, if you are honest, or your “ghost” is honest then you will see high spots and lows. You will find some successes and some whopping failures. That’s okay. That’s life! What can you learn from those? Can you learn what you did right in the successes and what you did wrong in the failures? I am sure you can if you try.
What about the “ghost” of your present? How do you see your life as it is? Is it everything that you hoped it would be? What are the things you can learn about yourself if you look honestly at your life?
Now, what about the “ghost” of your present? What do you see your life being if you continue on the track that you are on now? If you changed, what are the changes you would like to make so that you are the person you want to be?
I believe that if we have to live this life, and we do, we might as well live it to the fullest and enjoy every minute we can. We can learn a lot from the books we read and the movies we watch.
Long ago I had a literature professor, Richard Doctor, who taught me to look at what the author was saying between the lines not just in the words. People don’t write books just to tell a simple story, but to tell a deeper one as well. Since movies come from someone’s writing, you can say the same thing about them. What is the person who wrote the book or movie trying to say?
I think Charles Dickens was trying to say that we are all a little bit Ebenezer Scrooge and long to be more like Bob Crachit or even better, Tiny Tim. We want to see the good and we want to have a wonderful life (but that’s another movie all together!). If we learn to look at what our “ghosts” have to say to us, we can become the people we long to be.
P.S. I have not seen the new movie A Christmas Carol starring Jim Carrey, but I have heard it is good. I don’t see how a movie with Jim Carrey could be bad. I even liked the Ace Ventura movies! Since you can’t get the DVD for this latest rendition, I will give you the link to my favorite version with George C Scott. Since I haven’t seen the new one, I’ll have to say that in my humble opinion, this one is the best! Know that if you click the link and buy the movie, you will be giving me a little present as well. God Bless us everyone!

Last night, one of our neighbors had a fire in their house. They were all safe, but their house sustained a fair amount of damage. The woman is a single mom, with two teen aged daughters. I wonder how she is today! Read the rest of this entry »

The second fear I want to discuss is the fear of poverty. Now in these economic times many of us understand the fear of poverty better than we ever did before. Perhaps our job was cut or our wages decreased. Any number of things might have happened, but still the fear of poverty must be overcome! Read the rest of this entry »

Meditation has become popular in recent years, as more and more people seek a way to break free from the stress of living in our fragmented and frenzied world. Unfortunately, many people don’t consider the barriers modern society presents to meditation. Even seasoned meditation practitioners can lose focus in the speed-crazed, mindset of modern life. Meditation teaches a strong sense of self awareness and a healthy mind-body connection.
Today’s world is addicted to activity, and the more the better. Multi-tasking is considered not just a handy thing, but an essential thing. Read the rest of this entry »
