Attitude is everything!

This last week, my blogs were all about handling adversity and what ituphill can do for you instead of what it does to you. There is a big difference. We all have hard times. There is no getting around it. What we do with it is the question. Attitude is everything!

We can have the attitude that life is a bummer and everything about it is horrible, or, we can have the attitude that life is what life is and we must continually seek Read the rest of this entry »

Self Help: adversity helps and hurts us.

I am reading a great self help book right now, in fact it is sitting beside me as I write this. The book is The Power of Full Engagement Power of fullby Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz. It is about managing your energy, managing your adversity. It was recommended to me by Lynn Terry of Clicknewz. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this was not it! I have to say that it is better! Adversity: inspiration to a better life!

Adversity can be a huge stopping block, notice I said stopping and not Strugglestumbling. Adversity can cause us to come to a complete stop! It shouldn’t. We can use adversity, hardships, whatever you want to call it, to inspire us to greater heights!

There are so many stories of people who have used adversity to go on to greatness. One story that I heard recently is about Douglas Bader. Read the rest of this entry »

Life Change: adversity makes you strong!

If you’re going through hell, keep going. ~Winston Churchill

Adversity

Adversity

The above quote form Winston Churchill is a good one to remember! Adversity is not the end of the line, but a detour. If we keep going, we grow we learn.

Life change does not happen if we stop each time we come to adversity. If we allow things to stop us, then we never grow, we never change our life does not get better. I don’t know how many times in the past I have let this happen to me. I think I would be as rich as Bill Gates and as wise as Solomon if I had just kept going.

What sorts of hard times are stopping you? There is a great little book called power of adversityThe Power of Adversity that talks about this. We are meant to struggle; it is what makes us strong. It makes me think of a bird pecking its way out of the egg. If you don’t let it struggle on its own, it will likely die. It has to fight to get out in order to be strong enough to survive. Are you waiting for someone to help you out of your egg?

Let adversity teach you. Let it be the motivation to change your life in ways that seem almost magical! Let adversity make your life better. You have the choice!

Life Change: an interview with Lynn Terry

Lynn Terry

Lynn Terry

I want to introduce Lynn Terry I interviewed Lynn, asking her some questions about what made her tick and how she got to where she is today, a very successful woman.

Lynn Terry has overcome a lot of adversity in her life, to reach success. And not just financial success, but a complete lifestyle change as well. A single mother of two with no college education, and an incredible number of life challenges you wouldn’t wish on anyone – she turned it all around in a few short years. She now has a lifestyle to envy: Lynn travels the world, works from home, employs both of her children in her successful business, and is happier than she has ever been in her life…

  • Have you always considered yourself a strong person?

Life Change: adversity leads the way.

Adversity

Adversity

This week I am going to do a few posts on adversity and what that does to us and for us. We all think that adversity is something that we should avoid at all costs and that is mostly true. We should avoid adversity, but perhaps not at all costs. Why? Adversity is our most effective teacher, it can bring about life change like nothing else! Read the rest of this entry »

Putting Your Old On Hold

Today we have a guest on Life Change For you. Please welcome Karen McGreevey!

Before I tell you how I got here from there, I want to take a line or two to thank Steve for the opportunity to share a bit of my journey to a successful online business entrepreneurship! So, thank you, Steve!

Shortly after I turned 20, two or three (or was it four?) pimples suddenly appeared on my face! I had managed to get through my teen years without any so this was a new experience for me. In fact, I was somewhat “disturbed” by it (as superficial as it may seem), enough so that when I went to the doctor, I asked (okay, I probably “whined”) about it. His robot-like comment to me was, “You.have.acne! Acne is…” and then he went on to sing-songily (yeah, it’s a word) give the definition, the treatment, etc.

I was as devastated as any 20 year old might be in those days! More, I think, because of the doctor’s attitude than anything else.

So three-and-a-half years ago when I got the news that my employer would no longer be in need of my services, the result of new directorship and a new company direction, shades of “20 year old acne notice” came creeping back.

So, what to do, what to do?

For various reasons:

  • Like having a love for “sitting for hours on my end at the computer,” and
  • A diverse knowledge of the various available office support services,
  • Coupled with the knowledge that I didn’t want to sit at home or to make the daily rounds of the Senior Citizen’s Centers (I wasn’t even one of those “old people”),
  • A love for proofreading and editing, and
  • An even greater desire to eat,

I began to explore options for starting an online business. I knew I had the office support experience, the drive, the stick-to-it-iveness, the ability to work well by myself, and I knew I could make an e-business work.

And so, Konceptuality was born!

But not without some trial and error! For instance, like many online searchers I found numerous sites on “how to make money at home,” or “give us your $2,000 and we’ll teach you how to …. (you fill in the blank); none of which seemed to quite fit the criteria I wanted to invest my time and “maybe money” in.

I did, however, also find some links that talked about the Virtual Assistant (VA) industry, which really caught my eye. So I searched for, studied, and finally joined a couple of the VA forums that appealed to me. I read the members’ posts daily, and contributed to the various ongoing “discussions.” When the forums offered classes/seminars, I devoured those, as well. I volunteered for a committee or two at the forums and also volunteered my services to get experience. Thus, I quickly became known in the VA Industry.

During that time, I also wrote an ebook, as well as numerous articles, which I submitted to online article directories. Further, I started and now have three blogs, in addition to Konceptuality, my business Web site.

Then, about a year ago, I decided to do a little more than “just offer services” to earn my money so I again researched. After which I then chose to enter the Internet Marketing/Affiliate arena and joined Lynn Terry’s Self-starters Weekly Tips forum. There, I’ve also used some of the same get-acquainted strategies I used when I first began my walk as a VA.

Steve sums this all up quite well in his October 21st blog post– “Self help: who is in charge?” It seems we’ve both come to our place in time at the Selfstarters Weekly Tips Forum because we managed to turn “our bumps in the road” into profitable experiences just by digging in and digging down inside us by using our own “self help” and a little help from our online friends.

Yours in making it work,

Karen
