Kindle Review: this thing rocks!

Kindle

Kindle

I got a Kindle for my birthday from my kids. I have the thing for a couple of days now I have to say that I absolutely love the thing!

I’m quite a reader as it is, but I think I will be reading much more now. Why? For one thing it is so easy to pick up and read a page or even a few lines. When you turn it back on again, it comes right back to where you left off. That’s a big plus for someone like me who is always losing my bookmarks.

Another plus is that you can add notes as you go. I read a lot of non-fiction and I like to remember passages that are important to me.

Most book are around ten dollars but so far I have not paid that much. If you figure the cost of a regular book plus shipping, that is quite a savings! You can also get magazines and newspapers delivered right to your Kindle before they ever hit the stands!

I tried the voice reader and I will admit that it is a little robot sounding, especially in the female voice, but not enough to make it irritating.

If you are a person who loves to read and you have ever lost your place in a book or been uncomfortable carrying a book or two with you on vacation or just our to coffee, I recommend you get this thing as fast as you can!

Here is my link to the Kindle at Amazon. Know that this is an affiliate link and should you be smart enough to buy this great little device, I will make a small commission which does not effect your price at all. It just helps me pay for my next book!

Is the Law of Attraction the Only Law?

Law of Attraction

Law of Attraction

The short answer is no. There are many universal laws of life. The law of attraction is not the only law; it is one of many. It depends on who you ask how many there might be.

How many?

If you do a search for universal laws of life you will find sites that claim seven, ten or twenty different laws. I suppose that there are more than twenty. What I have found is that the laws of life vary with whoever is searching for them.

The point is that the laws you take on should mean something to you. If they don’t, if you cannot connect, then you will not follow them.

My Universal Laws.

I have studied these laws for nearly two decades. I have looked at them from religions and philosophies. I picked the laws that seemed to show up most often and that made sense to me. I admit that I changed the language so that they were easier for me to both understand and remember. Here they are

• I am a part of the Infinite
• Life energy flows from the Infinite to me and through me
• My beliefs, thoughts and actions create my reality
• I determine my limitations
• I receive from life in relation to what I put into it
• Hardships happen, but I always have a choice
• Ultimately, I am responsible for my own life and happiness

You will see that there are seven of them. The number is not that important, what is important is that they mean something to you.

What are your laws or values of life?

We all have them. Many of us don’t really think about them much and so, if asked, might not be able to say what they are, but they are there.

I suggest you think about what your laws might be. If you really can’t come up with them I suggest you use mine. Either way, come up with some and then ask yourself if you are living your life in accordance to them or not. If not, what needs to change?

Here’s to You!

P.S. Here is Deepak Chopra’s book on The Seven Spiritual Laws. They are similar to mine, but a little harder to understand IMHO.

Here is a little video I did on the Universal Laws of Life

The Secret to Success: get off your duff

The secret to success

The secret to success

I read a great blog post by my Aussie friend Annabel at Get in the Hot Spot. I’m going to give you a link to the post in a minute, but first I want to give my own version of what she said.

Get off your duff!

The secret to success isn’t in wishing, it’s in doing. The popular phrase the law of attraction has, unfortunately, become synonymous with wish it and it comes true. The truth is, wishing it does not make it come true and it will probably lead to great disappointment.

Positive thinking works great when it is coupled with action. I am all for looking at your life or a situation in your life and thinking in a positive way how you can turn that life or situation around and make it something that is good for you and those around you.

The next step, however, is to get up off your arse (as Annabel said it) and do something!

Do you attract or not?

I believe in what most people would call God. I call it the Infinite, mostly because the term “God” has been used for some things that are very un-god-like. The point is, I believe that there is something larger than us. You can call it the Universe, the Source, God, whatever you like, but it’s there.

I believe that we are a part of this Infinite Source and when we become aware of our connection and begin to have faith that we can do immeasurably more than we think, then opportunities are set in motion.

I have said before that I believe that most of these opportunities are already around us and we just don’t see them. Ike the forest for the trees, we look, but are unaware. That does not mean that things cannot and do not move toward those who seek them out, but now we go back to the first part. You have to be moving toward it before it will move toward you.

Faith

Our faith in the Infinite, ourselves, and the possibilities help us to bring our passion, our desires to a place where they become realities. It is work, not wishes, it is planning and persistence toward the goal that brings results.

The secret

The secret to success is to have a desire, a passion. Believe that your passion can become real and that you can bring it to reality through continued hard word and faith that you will find the way. Keep at it until it happens.

Here’s to You!

P.P.S. Here is my Amazon Affiliate link to the book The Secret. I think it has some inspiring stories that are good to motivate you. Just don’t fall for the wish upon a star hype.

Does positive thinking improve self confidence

Self Confidence

Self Confidence

Our self confidence has much to do with how we relate to life and those around us. The question is, does positive thinking help to improve our self confidence? The answer to that question is yes.

What does self confidence have to do with it?

We are what we think. If we think we are losers we are. If we think we are winners, we are. What we think about ourselves has much to do with who and what we are. Our self confidence, whether good or bad, tells us our place in life and what we can expect from it.

Having a good level of self confidence or building one is important. How we get that self confidence can be from our upbringing or it can be intentional on our part.

Positive thinking opens the door.

I said that our self confidence might be from our upbringing. If it was, we were helped by our parents and teachers to see that we were able to handle life’s problems. We were shown that we could rely on our abilities to solve the puzzles that life handed us. We learned to be positive.

If we were not lucky enough to have that sort of education, then we have to do it on our own and by our own intention. We learn that we can do what we set out to do and that we are able to handle life’s problems.

As we learn to think in a positive manner about the situations in our life and how to deal with them in ways that brings a good outcome or result for us and all those involved, we learn self confidence. We learn that we are not terrible people, but that we are able to do what we need to do.

What we learn.

When we use positive thinking to shape how we handle life, we learn that things go well when we expect them to and they go badly when we expect that outcome. How we believe our life to be is how it is.

We learn that life can be a series of one horrid experience after another of that it can be one blessing after another. The choice is ours to make. Most of us are bright enough to choose the latter.

How about you?

Here’s to You!

P.S. here is the international best seller The Power of Positive Thinking. I read it and thought it had some good things to say. It is a little outdated, but sometimes that’s not all bad. Make sure to read and understand the parts that talk about not only thinking positively, but working toward your goals.

Time passes a birthday wish

Birthday Wish

Birthday Wish

Today is my birthday. By many standards I am old. I turn sixty today. I don’t feel all that old. What I feel is regret. Time passes and it passes quickly. My regret is not for anything I have done, but for the things I have not done. So today, on my birthday, as time passes still, I have a birthday wish.

Don’t wait!

My wish is not something for me, but for you. The wish is, don’t wait. Don’t wait for what? Don’t wait to understand how life works and use that understanding to make your life better. What do I mean?

I have studied what I call life’s universal laws for decades. I don’t remember the first time I read Think and Grow Rich. It started me on my journey and I still read it. What I didn’t do is put into practice what that book taught me until years later. Why? I don’t know. I guess I didn’t fully believe.

What are the laws?

There are several laws that we can use to live by. Most of them are similar to others in one way or another. I have seven that I have gleaned from them all that I use for my own life. I didn’t make them up, but borrowed them from several differing sources. They are as follows.

• I am part of the Infinite.
• Life energy flows from the Infinite to me and through me.
• My beliefs, thoughts, and actions create my reality
• I determine my limitations
• I receive from life in relation to what I put into it
• Hardships happen, but I always have a choice
• Ultimately, I am responsible for my own life and happiness.

What these all mean I will not go into now. I am sure you can figure most of them out on your own. It is not my intention to teach them to you here, only to say that this is what I live by. What are yours?

What are yours?

You don’t have to accept mine, but I think you will find that they are representative of the basic laws. Sure there are others and some of those others might mean more to you. That’s fine. Choose what seems good to you, but that’s not my wish.

The Wish

Do something about them! That’s the wish. Don’t wait! Don’t be stupid and ignore the great teachings from so many masters that tell us the same things over and over again. Listen and learn. Listen and do. This stuff is not wish on a star kind of stuff, it is work, but the rewards are so abundant they are hard to believe.

If you are young, meaning under sixty, don’t hold back like I did. I would be rich according to my greatest dreams and have very little regrets if I had followed the wisdom. If you are old, don’t fall into the trap of thinking that you are too old to start now. It is never too late! The rewards come quickly if you will apply the laws.

Here’s to You!

Infinite Life: why do bad things happen to good people?

Infinite Life

Infinite Life

I believe that we have the opportunity to have an infinite life. Recently I had an experience where someone I know was questioning why do bad things happen to good people. Here is the real simple and, frankly, only answer.

Because they are alive!

That’s right. Bad things happen to good people because they are alive. God is not punishing them, the cosmos does not hate them, they haven’t done anything wrong, well maybe, they are simply alive.

If you are alive, you can expect bad things to happen. It makes me so angry to here people say that if you just follow this or that religion, nothing will ever happen to you, or if you follow the law of attraction well enough you will never attract bad stuff into your life. Pardon my crassness, but bullshit!

If you are alive, no matter if you are a good person or a bad person, bad stuff will happen; hardships will happen.\

You mean there’s no way out?

That’s right! As long as you are drawing breath, you run the risk of having something bad happen to you. Now that does not mean there is nothing we can do about it.

Step one: Have faith.

Have faith that God, the Universe, the Infinite Source, whatever it is you believe in will help you get through whatever it is you are going through. I said before that re3ligion will not stop bad stuff from happening in your life, and it won’t, but it will help in dealing with it! There have been many studies that show that people with religious faith of some sort deal with hardship better than those who do not.

Step two: Think positive.

I don’t meant the kind of thinking that denies that anything is wrong. This will only lead to frustration and the mind tries to justify what is happening with what you are telling it. Some people seem to say that you should never admit that you are having hardship, but I disagree.

Admit it, and then move on. The type of positive thinking that I am talking about is where you look at whatever situation you are in and then begin to look for positive ways to deal with whatever it is. How can you turn this situation around? How can you think about it so that it does not crush or control your life? What can you learn from it?

Step three: Action

Now that you have thought about your situation and have come up with some positive steps, it is time to put them into action. Don’t sit around waiting for someone else to do it for you. Don’t sit around waiting for the Universe to do it for you either. There is an old saying about how God made a lot of marble, but he never made a statue.

As you begin to take action, you may well notice that the Infinite seems to be lending a hand, but if you do nothing, you may have a very long wait. I am not saying that God does not move or that God does not change things. What I am saying is that God usually expects us to do something as well.

Why do bad things happen to good people? They happen because they are alive. What they do with those bad things is usually in measure with who and what they are. What about you? What do you do when bad things come into your life?

Here’s to You!

P.S. Here is a book that has long been thought to be a great piece on this same subject. When Bad Things Happen to Good People

Infinite life infinite possibilities

What do you want in life? What sort of person would you like to be? What are the things you would like to do? This is an infinite life with infinite possibilities. Why not be and have what you want?
